The members of the United Nations Security Council, recognizing the fundamental importance of women’s full participation in the maintenance and promotion of international peace and security, reaffirm their collective commitment to the principles of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda, as outlined in Security Council Resolution 1325 and subsequent resolutions.

We emphasize that women’s participation and leadership in peace processes, conflict prevention, conflict resolution, and post-conflict reconstruction are essential to building sustainable peace. We recognize that peace and security cannot be achieved without the active involvement of women and their equal access to decision-making processes.

Commitments for the Principles of Women, Peace and Security

We acknowledge that women and girls are disproportionately affected by conflict, and we underscore the need for a gender-sensitive approach to the prevention, protection, and resolution of conflicts. In this regard, we commit to addressing the specific needs of women and girls in humanitarian settings, including the prevention of sexual and gender-based violence, the provision of access to justice, and the enhancement of women’s economic and social rights in post-conflict reconstruction.

The signatories further reaffirm the importance of gender equality in the prevention of violent extremism, recognizing the role of women in countering radicalization and violent ideologies, and their unique contribution to peacebuilding efforts at the local, national, and international levels. We call for greater support for initiatives that empower women, including those who have been displaced by conflict, and for the elimination of barriers to their participation in peace processes.

We pledge to enhance the capacity of the UN system and member states to implement the WPS agenda, ensuring that gender considerations are integrated into all aspects of conflict management and peacebuilding. We support efforts to hold perpetrators of violence against women accountable and to ensure justice for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence.

In conclusion, we reaffirm that the realization of the Women, Peace and Security agenda is an urgent priority. By fostering inclusive peace processes, strengthening women’s leadership, and ensuring their protection, we contribute to a more just, peaceful, and secure world for all.

Signed,
The Security Council Signatories.
