Osaka revealed that during her younger years, she struggled with feelings of inadequacy and a lack of self-acceptance. “Growing up, I never liked myself,” she admitted. The pressure to succeed, compounded by the scrutiny that comes with being a professional athlete, only heightened these insecurities. “I felt like I always had to prove myself, and when I didn’t meet those expectations, I’d be really hard on myself.”
For Osaka, the journey toward self-love has been a gradual one, rooted in recognizing her worth beyond her achievements on the court. “I used to tie my self-esteem to winning. If I lost, I’d feel like I was a failure as a person,” she said. This mindset took a toll on her mental health, leading her to step back from tennis temporarily in 2021 to prioritize her well-being.

Osaka emphasized the importance of embracing imperfections and being kinder to herself. “I’ve learned that it’s okay not to have everything figured out. Loving yourself is a process, and it’s something I work on every day.”
The Japanese-Haitian star also highlighted how becoming a mother has reshaped her perspective. Osaka welcomed her first child earlier this year and spoke about how the experience has deepened her sense of purpose. “Being a mom has taught me to value myself not just for what I do but for who I am. I want my child to grow up confident and proud of who they are, and that starts with me setting the example.”
