United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has urged the United States to ensure that development and humanitarian assistance remains exempt from any pauses or interruptions in aid disbursement. His appeal comes amid growing concerns about the adverse impacts of suspending essential funding to vulnerable populations in crisis-stricken regions.
Speaking at a press conference, Guterres highlighted the critical importance of maintaining the flow of humanitarian and development funds, particularly during times of escalating global challenges such as conflict, food insecurity, climate disasters, and widespread poverty. He stressed that interruptions to such funding not only jeopardize immediate relief efforts but also hinder long-term development goals, exacerbating the suffering of millions.
