Born in Welsh, Louisiana, the 53-year-old Guidry has deep roots in the state. He played college football at McNeese State University and later served as the head coach there from 2016 to 2018. His coaching career also includes stints at Florida Atlantic and Marshall. At Marshall, Guidry led a defense that ranked among the nation’s top units in 2022, a performance that earned him the defensive coordinator position at Miami.
During his tenure at Miami, the Hurricanes’ defense faced challenges. In the 2024 season, Miami’s defense ranked 68th nationally, allowing just over 25 points per game. Against Power 4 opponents, this average increased to approximately 31 points per game. These struggles contributed to Miami’s decision to part ways with Guidry.
