KLM to offer 4% more capacity in 2025 as airline reveals full sum….KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has unveiled its summer 2025 schedule, announcing a 4% increase in overall capacity compared to the previous year. This expansion reflects the airline’s commitment to meeting growing passenger demand and enhancing its global network.
Expanded Global Network
For the International Air Transport Association (IATA) summer season, spanning from March 30 to October 25, 2025, KLM will operate flights to 161 destinations worldwide. This includes 95 cities across Europe and 66 intercontinental destinations. The airline’s strategic growth is evident with the introduction of new routes and increased flight frequencies.
New Intercontinental Destinations
KLM is set to launch services to three new intercontinental destinations:
-
San Diego, USA: Starting May 8, 2025, KLM will offer three weekly direct flights from Amsterdam to San Diego, utilizing Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
-
Georgetown, Guyana: Beginning June 4, 2025, the airline will operate two weekly flights on a circular route connecting Amsterdam, St. Maarten, and Georgetown, with plans to increase to three weekly flights using Airbus A330 aircraft from October 26, 2025.
-

Additionally, KLM will continue its service to Portland, USA, transitioning it from a winter-only route to a year-round destination.
Fleet Enhancements
To support its expanded operations, KLM plans to integrate three new Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners into its fleet during the summer of 2025, increasing the total number to 14. These aircraft feature a three-class configuration: 38 seats in business class, 28 in premium economy, and 252 in economy class.
Increased Frequencies on Existing Routes
KLM is also boosting frequencies on several existing routes:
-
Kilimanjaro and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania: Flights will increase to daily services from June 2025, up from five times weekly, representing a nearly 30% increase in seat capacity year-over-year.
-
Osaka, Japan: Direct flights from Amsterdam will operate up to five times weekly starting in April 2025.
-
Las Vegas, USA: Service will expand to daily flights, up from five times weekly in 2024.

-
Edmonton, Canada: Flights will operate five times weekly, increasing to six during peak summer periods.
Overall, KLM will offer approximately 10% more flights to North America in the summer of 2025 compared to the previous year.
European Network Expansion
Within Europe, KLM is introducing services to three new destinations:
-
Ljubljana, Slovenia
-
Exeter, United Kingdom
-
Biarritz, France
The airline will also consolidate its Milan operations by focusing on Linate Airport, ceasing services to Malpensa Airport.
To further support its European expansion, KLM anticipates the delivery of five additional Airbus A321neo aircraft, doubling its current fleet of this model.
Operational Challenges
Despite its growth plans, KLM faces challenges, including shortages of aircraft spare parts and delays in pilot recruitment and training. These issues have necessitated adjustments in operations and strategic planning.
In summary, KLM’s summer 2025 schedule demonstrates a strategic effort to enhance its global presence, offering passengers increased options and improved connectivity across its network.
