BREAKING NEWS:Toronto Blue Jays rumored to be targeting

Why Blue Jays are fit for Shohei Ohtani

The Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly interested in bolstering their pitching staff by targeting Luis Severino, a former All-Star who has played for both the New York Yankees and the Mets. After a difficult 2024 season in which the Blue Jays finished last in the competitive AL East, the team is looking to make impactful moves to return to contention. Strengthening their rotation could help achieve this, particularly with Severino, who offers a mix of experience and upside at age 31.

Severino, a two-time All-Star, has shown flashes of brilliance but has also faced injuries in recent years. Despite these setbacks, his talent and track record make him a compelling option for the Blue Jays, who already have a solid core of starters in Kevin Gausman, Chris Bassitt, José Berríos, and Bowden Francis. Adding Severino could solidify the rotation and provide the depth needed for a playoff push in 2025.

The rumored deal is speculated to be around three years and $51 million, reflecting both his potential impact and some risk due to past injuries. Signing Severino would also signal the Blue Jays’ intent to remain competitive, particularly as key players like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. approach free agency.

This pursuit aligns with the Blue Jays’ need to make significant roster improvements to retain their young stars and compete in one of baseball’s toughest divisions.
