Fizzle out:
The Las Vegas Raiders have requested permission to interview Pittsburgh Steelers’ Director of Pro Scouting, Sheldon White, for their vacant General Manager position.
White’s extensive NFL experience includes a six-year playing career as a defensive back with the New York Giants, Detroit Lions, and Cincinnati Bengals. After retiring as a player, he transitioned into scouting and executive roles, notably spending 19 seasons with the Detroit Lions. During his tenure in Detroit, he served as Director of Pro Personnel and was promoted to Vice President of Pro Personnel in 2009. In 2015, he briefly held the position of interim General Manager following the dismissal of Martin Mayhew.
Following his time with the Lions, White joined Michigan State University as Executive Director of Player Personnel and Recruiting from 2016 to 2020. He returned to the NFL in 2021 as a scout for the Washington Football Team. In 2022, the Pittsburgh Steelers appointed him as their Director of Pro Scouting, where he has been responsible for evaluating professional talent and overseeing pro personnel matters.
White’s diverse background and wealth of experience make him a strong candidate for the Raiders’ General Manager role. His participation in the NFL’s Front Office Accelerator program, aimed at promoting diversity within executive positions, further underscores his readiness for such a leadership role.
If the Raiders proceed with hiring White, the Steelers would be entitled to receive third-round compensatory draft picks in the 2025 and 2026 NFL Drafts, as per the NFL’s rules on minority hires for executive positions.
The Raiders are actively seeking to fill their General Manager vacancy after recent organizational changes. White’s proven track record in both collegiate and professional football operations positions him as a compelling choice to lead the Raiders’ front office into the future.
