Despite an 11-win season and their fifth playoff appearance in six years, Gutekunst believes it’s time for the Packers to actively compete for championships.
Gutekunst highlighted the fleeting nature of NFL careers and the importance of seizing current opportunities. He expressed confidence in the talent and character of the current roster, stating, “I think they’re ready… I think that group is the kind of guys that can do that.”
One area of focus is the performance of quarterback Jordan Love. While Love showed growth, his playoff performance, including a passer rating of 41.5—the lowest in the Packers’ postseason history—indicates room for improvement. Gutekunst remains optimistic, praising Love’s development and leadership, and expressing excitement about his future with the team.
The Packers also face decisions regarding key defensive players, notably cornerback Jaire Alexander, who has been limited by injuries. Gutekunst acknowledged the challenges but affirmed the team’s ability to retain Alexander, emphasizing the importance of his contributions when healthy.
Reflecting on the past season, Gutekunst noted the team’s progress under adversity and the importance of maintaining high expectations regardless of experience. He emphasized that the ultimate goal remains contending for the Super Bowl, stating, “We’re not interested in much else.”
As the Packers prepare for the upcoming season, Gutekunst’s message is clear: with a talented roster and lessons learned from recent challenges, the team must approach the future with increased urgency and a steadfast commitment to competing at the highest level.
