Jim Nagy, executive director of the Senior Bowl, has been appointed as the next general manager of Oklahoma, the university stated. Nagy, who has strong ties in both college football and the NFL, joins the Sooners after playing for the Senior Bowl for the previous eight years.
Nagy has worked in NFL front offices for almost 20 years and has a history in scouting. With the Senior Bowl, he scouted and identifed players to be invited to work out and play in front of scouts at the postseason event. Nagy has been interviewed for NFL general manager jobs in the past, including a 2024 interview with the New York Jets.
At Oklahoma, Nagy will play a major role in managing the roster and acquiring talent, including recruiting and retention. With revenue
As player acquisition and retention become full-time jobs, general managers are among the positions in the sport with the quickest rate of growth. Like Oklahoma, a lot of people have looked to the NFL for role models. Bill Belichick, the coach of North Carolina, brought Michael Lombardi from the NFL. Others have extensive scouting experience, such as James Blanchard of Texas Tech.
The addition of Randall Stephenson, a former AT&T executive, as Chair of Football and Special Advisor to the President and Director of Athletics was part of Nagy’s hiring. Although Stephenson has been serving as Castiglione’s unpaid advisor since December, he will now formally be in charge of Nagy and Venables’ daily operations.
“The work required to manage a roster, including contract negotiations, player evaluation, strategic planning, recruiting and retention, requires full-time focus and skill sets,” Venables stated. “Nagy’s high-caliber, extensive experience in scouting, recruiting and retaining top talent will pay dividends across our roster and ultimately on the field.”

Additionally, the Rams find a replacement for Cooper Kupp.
Just because quarterback is the most important position in the NFL, doesn’t mean teams will draft them for the sake of drafting them. We saw this a few years ago during the 2022 NFL Draft when Kenny Pickett was the only quarterback taken in the first round, and he went 20th to the Steelers. That was a QB class widely considered to be weak.
While the 2025 class isn’t viewed in quite the same way, it isn’t seen as overly strong. Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders look like the only two signal-callers teams are interested in grabbing early, and we don’t know how strong the interest actually is. When you add in that there are plenty of QB-needy teams, but not so many QB-desperate teams, it complicates the picture even further.
I kept this in mind as I went through my second mock of the season. There are a couple of trades, both involving teams in need of a quarterback. The New York Giants (desperate) move up to No. 1 to get their guy, while the Cleveland Browns pick up another first-rounder (and more) after trading Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Let’s see how it all plays out from there.
The New York Giants sorely lack answers at quarterback, and general manager Joe Schoen appears to know it, admitting to reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine Tuesday that the club must address the position this offseason. Not only that, but he said the Giants will “look under every rock” and possibly pursue multiple starting-caliber signal-callers, including via trade and free agency, for 2025.
“We’re gonna have to address the position somewhere,” Schoen said. “And even if you get a young quarterback, you’d like to have a vet in the room with them, to show them the ropes and how to be a pro. So we’re looking at all different avenues. … We’re gonna look at vets, we’re gonna look at the draft, we’re gonna look at
