The New England Patriots placed their starting left tackle on injured reserve Monday afternoon, according to a trade release.
Strange, 25, was dragged off the field in the second quarter of Sunday’s 27-17 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs at Gillette Stadium.
He was then relegated to out position due to a left knee injury and was replaced by rookie Atonio Mafi.
Strange has appeared in all 29 games for New England since being taken 29th overall in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Chattanooga native injured his knee early in training camp and missed the season opener in September.
He then had to miss the first three games of October due to a knee problem before returning.
“The longer he was on the field, the better he got,” Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said during a video conference Monday.
“I think he’s played better in the last few weeks of the season.
He missed a lot of time at training camp there at the beginning of the year and that slowed him down.
But he’s been at his best lately.
Strange has played 565 snaps this season, leading the Patriots’ offensive linemen in rookie right guard Sidi Saw, center and captain David Andrews, and flexible right tackle David Andrews.
He is ranked fourth behind Mike Onwenu.
The organization acquired quarterback Nathan Rourke from the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday, leaving a 53-man roster to be addressed.
