According to the Shropshire Star, the 23-year-old’s loan deal is set to end, allowing the League One side to use the freed-up funds to strengthen their squad in the next transfer window.
Thorpe joined Shrewsbury Town in the summer but did not achieve his best results.
Thorpe was sidelined with a stress fracture in his back after performing well in pre-season and has barely featured since recovering.
A loan move to Burton Albion last season also fell through, with Thorpe making just eight appearances for the club.
With Thorpe set to rejoin the team, one can imagine that urgent steps will be taken to find Elliott another club for the second half of the season.
Thorpe, 23, certainly deserves better than development football as he looks to revive a career that has stagnated somewhat of late.
We hope that a decent club is found and Elliott gets a chance to shine and show what he’s capable of.
