For a long time, Kalvin Phillips’ move to Newcastle United seemed inevitable.
The 28-year-old reportedly wants to leave Manchester City and join the Magpies on loan, but our move has been further strengthened after Juventus ended their interest in the midfielder.
Phillips is interested in working with Eddie Howe, which is unsurprising given the number of players who have developed since taking over at St James’ Park.
However, with winning and sustainability rules at stake in the January transfer window, some may have to leave before Newcastle bring in Phillips.
Many clubs are struggling financially, but one team with a lot of work to do is Tottenham Hotspur.
They have already made two new signings, bringing in Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin.
They are currently looking to sign a number three and that could have an impact on Newcastle United.

Newcastle’s need to sign the £42m midfielder has only intensified in recent days, with manager Eddie Howe confirming Joelinton will be sidelined for the next six weeks.
This leaves the Magpies with just three fully fit middle midfielders.

Whether he returns to Tyneside this month remains to be seen, but interest from Tottenham certainly complicates matters.
