CBS Sports’ NFL Draft Prospect Rankings, was instrumental in Texas’ 2023 breakthrough.
The LoTexas quarterback Quinn Ewers announced on Instagram Thursday that he will avoid returning from the 2024 NFL Draft and will spend his third season with the Longhorns in 2024.

Ewers, ranked No.

30 in nghorns won their first Big 12 Championship since 2009 and advanced to the College Football Playoff, but lost to Washington in the 2023 Sugar Bowl semifinals.
Ewers debuted with the Longhorns in 2022, but struggled with early-season injuries and late-season instability, and showed great improvement in his second season as QB1.
He finished the 2023 season with 3,479 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, six interceptions, and five additional touchdowns.
Ewers was injured in the game against Houston and missed the first two games of the season, but the Texans won both games with backup Malik Murphy filling in during his absence.
Murphy then transferred to Duke University.
Ewers’ decision has been officially announced, but for the former No.
1 recruit in the country as the Longhorns aim to return to the College Football Playoff in 2024 and continue their quest for their first national championship since.
The problem is not over.
Year 2005.
The 2024 campaign will see Texas make the long-awaited move to the SEC along with rival Oklahoma State, forcing Ewers and the Longhorns, a far superior Big 12 competitor, to be at their best.
Adding to an already difficult list is a nonconference road game against reigning national champion Michigan in September.
“I want to be a quarterback that strives to get better every year,” Ewers told ESPN.
“A quarterback who loved his teammates, a quarterback who won a lot of football games and brought Texas football back to the top of college football where it should be.
” Arch Manning’s Year of Growth 2024 NFL Had Murphy been selected in the draft, the Arch Manning era would have begun as the former top prospect in the 2023 recruiting cycle would arrive at the Forty Acres after spending last season as the Longhorns’ third quarterback.
I was supposed to.
Instead, Manning will have to wait another season to get a chance to be QB1, at least if he plans to take advantage of that opportunity at Texas.
Given that Manning played sporadically in 2023 (he only appeared in the final week of the regular season), spending another season that way to learn after Ewers is a no-brainer.
, before it’s time for him to step into the spotlight, which could be beneficial enough for him and the rest of the Texas offense.
All four of the Longhorns’ 2023 potential receivers have declared for the draft.
Therefore, continuing to have an experienced quarterback like Ewers in place should alleviate any additional growing pains that come with a quarterback change.
Not to mention the SEC adjustments.
Playing time aside, Manning is considered one of the biggest names in sports in 2024, as is his redshirt season.
But from a competitive standpoint, it’s not at all impossible for Ewers to earn Texas’ starting spot for a third straight year.
