At the start of the January transfer window, it was thought that the Turk would move to Verona, so it probably would have worked out if he had been replaced.
However, manager Philippe Clement has made it clear that Yilmaz will not go anywhere unless the Gers receive an offer they cannot refuse [Sky Sports, January 17], with a £500 fee for Doig.
It did not appear to be economically viable, costing over £10,000.

Borna Barisic’s future remains uncertain after his current contract ends in the summer, and Clement does not want to be without both and is on the hunt for talent.
It’s not a particularly encouraging sign that Yilmaz has only shown flashes over the past 18 months and has yet to succeed in dislodging the Croatian, but he has performed well enough to contribute at this point.
As such, reconsidering the position in the summer, when he could be handed over to a potential player, may be the only sensible option.
