It comes after the Africa Cup of Nations final on Sunday 11 February, in which Diomande’s Ivory Coast triumphed over Balogun’s Nigeria to take home the title in dramatic fashion.

To celebrate the Elephants’ AFCON victory, Diomande arrived at Auchenhowie on Monday wearing an Ivory Coast shirt, which Balogun couldn’t resist reacting to.

Diomande might not have been involved in the senior side’s victory, but the Ivory Coast under-23 international wasn’t missing out on a chance to boast in front of his Nigerian counterparts.

The video, filmed by Balogun and shared on his Instagram page, shows Diomande proudly showing off his allegiances with an emphatic smile on his face.

Edgar was able to see the funny side though, with the podcast host responding to the clip on X by saying “Love this”, accompanied by a laughing emoji for good measure.

While Balogun would’ve no doubt been disappointed after Nigeria missed out on a fourth AFCON title, the defender was at least able to see the funny side of the interaction with Diomande.

In truth, it goes to show the chemistry within the Rangers dressing room after a toxic start to the season under Michael Beale, something which followed him to Sunderland.

Having lost just one of his first 24 matches in charge of the Glaswegian outfit, new boss Philippe Clement has guided Rangers back into the title conversation, with the 55-time Scottish champions now within touching distance of leaders Celtic.
